On Sunday, June 24, 2012, Jermaine Person, Mailpiece
Design Analyst (MDA), represented Macon Post Office at Macon GA's Historic
Douglass Theatre's "Jazz in the Courtyard" Concert by dedicating the
new Miles Davis Forever Stamp.
"What a fitting occasion
to showcase the Postal Service's commitment to customer
satisfaction," stated Macon Postmaster Tim Goodwin. "We were
excited and thrilled to be a part of this great evening of entertainment,
honoring a phenomenal musician..... Miles Davis."
Mr. Person, along with Jimmy Mills, (Douglass Board of
Trustee Member) unveiled a poster-sized version of the Davis stamp to a large
audience of jazz music lovers. The stamp dedication topped off an evening
filled with various jazz musicians and bands serenading the crowd with cool,
live music. Person, also, provided the audience with a synopsis of
the history of the selection of a person/place/event for the honor of being
placed on a stamp; which also included the role of the Citizens Stamp Advisory
Committee and the uniqueness of the Quick Response code on the Davis stamp (a
first for a stamp). The audience response was awesome with many wanting
to purchase the stamps immediately. As is customary with Macon
Post Office and the theatre, the poster-size Davis stamp was donated to the
theatre for display with its collection.
