Vidalia GA Rural Carrier Rescues Young Lady from Burning Car

On August 4, Vidalia GA Rural Carriers Dana Allen rescued a young female from a burning car while delivering his route.

Allen passed by a car that had overturned on the shoulder of the road and attracted a crowd of people.

He had a unusually strong feeling to turn around and help, so he did just that. As he approached the scene there was female sitting down beside the road that looked very distraught.

Allen asked if everyone was out of the car and the answer was no. He immediately rushed to the car to rescue the remaining occupant despite others at the scene warning him of the car being on fire.

Without a second thought to his own safety Allen was able to get the door to the car open with the help of another gentleman.

Allen then went inside the car and pulled the unconscious female from the burning car and brought her to safety. Once emergency personnel arrived, the victim was airlifted to the nearest hospital with substantial head injuries.

Allen's supervisor Vidalia OIC J.T. Warnock said, "This is one of the greatest acts of courage and humanity for a person to risk their own life to save that of another and Mr. Allen should be commended for this brave act. I have stressed my appreciation and proudness to work with an employee such as this to him."

  1. I have always enjoyed working with Dana but he has really outdone himself with this act of bravery. To risk your life for someone elses especially someone whom you don't know shows such an act of heroism becoming of that of a medal of honor receipient.

Or as another employee stated, "Butch threw caution to the wind as he dined on danger and snacked on death."
