Savannah carrier proves value of saving sick leave

Steve Anderson is a city letter carrier assigned to the Oglethorpe Station in Savannah, GA and was hospitalized with a serious health condition in early June and remained in ICU for two months.

After his release from the hospital, Steve endured another five weeks of recovery and physical therapy.

Savannah Postmaster Denise Holguin said Steve has always been a conscientious employee who has been judicious in his leave usage.

"During those difficult months, Steve’s family was able to focus on his recovery, knowing he had conserved enough sick leave to provide for their financial needs, even while he was unable to work," said Holguin.

During his extended hospital stay, his family was visited by District Manager Eric Chavez, Marketing Manager Lucious Sumlar and Manager Post Office Operations Ken Brantley.

Steve was greatly missed by his co-workers and his customers.  The phone calls of concern from the residents on his route gave true testimony to level of service he provides.
