Recycling efforts pay dividends at the Jacksonville P&DC

Many of the custodians in the Jacksonville P&DC have become involved and enthusiastic with the recycling process.

They have placed recycling containers at the elevators, in the break-room and on the workroom floor for cans and plastic bottles.

The custodians have asked Administrative Staff and Work-room floor employees to please hold their cans and plastic bottles out of the regular trash and to take them to the nearest appropriate recycling container.

Once the cans and bottles are collected they are both are removed by the custodians. The cans go into one of the two dumpsters for metal, that are on site. The plastic bottles go along with the paper, cardboard, undeliverable mail and shrink wrap to Dock 1. They are loaded onto a Southland Recycling trailer which gets pulled 1-2 times daily.

"Our recycling program has been in place for many years. It includes a very successful backhauling operation for North Florida and South Georgia," said Patti Mills, Manager Maintenance Engineering Support. "We continue to look for recycling opportunities that we may have missed and really appreciate the enthusiasm of other employees who come to us with their ideas."
